How long did you work with Rothschild & Co and in what role?

I spent a few months as an Intern in Global Advisory covering Property, Leisure and Retail in Spring 2005. I took a year out after studying Philosophy, Politics & Economics at university to get deeper experience in different fields before deciding where to start my career and, of course, to travel the world. The Rothschild & Co winter internship was an amazing experience.

Tell us about your time at the firm – could you name one or two favourite memories, experiences or achievements?

I truly loved my time at Rothschild & Co. The firm was filled with bright people who took a genuine interest in helping me to learn.

I'm a big Manchester United fan so the highlight was undoubtedly being in the team that ran the deal process with the Glazer family. There were plenty of other high profile advisory and M&A transactions in the team at the time too. The most personally rewarding work was some of the deeper modelling and analytical work I did, particularly in the property space, where I was given plenty of responsibility and challenge in equal measure.

What are you up to now?

Following my time at Rothschild & Co, I spent a few years in strategy consulting and then a further few years in early-stage private equity. I've since switched to the other side of the table and am the Founder and CEO of Housekeep.com, a technology platform that matches up customers with local cleaners and tradespeople. We've completed over 1.5 million jobs with a 4.9 star average rating and were ranked the 6th fastest-growing company in Europe by the Financial Times in 2019

Can you share something you learned during your time at Rothschild & Co that helped you in your career?

I was fortunate to learn heaps of useful stuff - how to conduct deep research, figure out complex analysis and deliver crisp presentations. However, what really stands out about my time at Rothschild & Co is the people. My colleagues at Rothschild & Co demonstrated how you can be bright, ambitious and driven, whilst also being thoughtful and collegiate - traits that don’t always come immediately to ambitious 20-something-year-olds.

I recall being given advice by a senior partner that my peers at the time will be the same people I will encounter many years in the future. This helped me to understand that good working relationships are two-way streets to invest in. My job today largely involves recruiting bright, motivated people and setting them clear goals and my experience at Rothschild & Co has undoubtedly helped me with that.

What are your interests or hobbies outside of work?

I'm kept busy with a young family, including a very active four-year-old and a sibling on the way. So that's most of my time outside work accounted for. I'm also an avid reader and love playing or watching pretty much any sport. I'm also still an active angel investor and have a few early-stage advisory/Non-Executive Director roles.
